The Making of ‘The Wynne Ring’ : A Jewellery Repurposing Story.

Wynne Ring Before - CARLSSON 1064.jpg

It all starts with an existing piece of jewellery.

Emily inherited this necklace from her grandmother, Wynne. It’s a beautiful 9 karat gold necklace, the garnets are gorgeous and shine like sunshine through a glass of red wine!

The necklace lived in a drawer and never saw the light of day. When I told Emily about my jewellery remake and redesign service, she was immediately interested.

We discussed what type of piece she wanted to get from it, and quickly decided on a ring. As the consultation was happening remotely, we shared ideas on Pinterest, which really helped me understand Emily’s preferences and aesthetic. We discussed her grandmother in depth, and it turned out that most of the memories that she had of her grandmother were from the mid-century furniture shop that her grandparents ran. She also had fond memories of spending Christmas in their Modernist home, which was quirky and fun! The design of the ring needed to reflect the lovely Wynne.

Design & Prototyping

In parallel to preparing the metal, there’s design and sometimes prototyping that happens! In this case, we were thinking about an unusual shaped ring, so a prototype was helpful to assess how the final design would be. The client loved the prototype, so I knew I was on to a good thing!

And The Final Piece!

After the melting, making, stone-setting and polishing, the piece is a done deal.

Happy Client

Seeing that smile on the client’s face is what this job is all about. She loved the ring and felt that it honoured her grandmother perfectly.
